Eight Men Accused in the Beating of FEMEN Activists in Paris

On November 18, 2012, nine FEMEN activists protested a demonstration against same-sex marriage organized by the Association of Catholic Integrists in Paris. The activists, dressed as Catholic nuns with bare chests, chanted slogans such as “In Gay We Trust” and “Fuck Church,” and sprayed foam from fire extinguishers to symbolize “holy sperm.” Their protest was in support of same-sex marriage rights in France. During the demonstration, approximately thirty participants from the opposing group attacked the FEMEN activists, chasing and beating them along the street. The trial of eight men accused of these assaults began on January 16, 2018.
