On December 11, 2022, FEMEN activists held a protest near the iconic Louvre pyramid in Paris to stand in solidarity with Iranian women. This demonstration was staged to denounce the ongoing repression
and violence against women in Iran, particularly in the wake of the protests triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini and other women fighting for freedom. The activists, using FEMEN’s signature topless protest style, carried signs with powerful messages such as “L’Iran assassine ses héroïnes” (“Iran is killing its heroines”), while holding up long braids to symbolize the oppression of women and their struggle for autonomy. Pink and green smoke surrounded the group, adding to the visibility and intensity of the protest.
This action was part of FEMEN’s larger efforts to draw international attention to the plight of women in countries where their rights are severely restricted, with a focus on the brutal tactics used by the Iranian regime to suppress women’s activism and human rights movements.
By staging this protest, FEMEN highlighted the bravery of women in Iran who continue to defy the regime, and demanded global action to support these heroines in their fight for justice and equality.
